Objectives of the Project • Dissemination of the achievements and results of T-JEP 10014-95 to key agricultural universities in the RF by:
• Reviewing the results of T-JEP 10014-95
• Improvement of selected text-books and development of additional teaching materials
• Introduction of new courses in 5 key agricultural universities
• Training of younger teaching staff of MTAA
• Modernisation of teaching and communication equipment of the key agricultural universities
Description of the Project From 1995 to 1998 in a TEMPUS-JEP a new BSc-programme in ‘Agricultural Economics’ was developed, approved and introduced at the Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. In addition younger teachers were trained in Western Europe, teaching materials and text books have been developed and distributed to other Agricultural Universities in Russia. However, most of the other Agricultural Universities in the Russian Federation have this far been unable to restructure their economic education, because the effective use of the new teaching materials requires at the same time structural changes in the curriculum and well prepared and trained teaching staff.

Therefore, in a TEMPUS-Compact-Project the Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy (Russian Federation) the Wageningen Agricultural University (The Netherlands) and the University of Hohenheim (Germany) intend to intensify the dissemination process and to introduce new ‘Agricultural Economics’-curricula in at least 5 key Agricultural Universities in Russia. The outcomes of the previous Tempus-JEP will be reviewed by a dissemination committee, updated, extended and disseminated to other Agricultural Universities in Russia. At the same time, teaching staff of these key Agricultural Universities will be re-trained during 13 one- and four-week training courses organized at the Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. Furthermore 6 younger teachers and 4 professors of MTAA will be trained at the Western European partner universities in order to improve their ability to conduct training courses for economic teaching staff in Russia and to update teaching materials.

The proposed project will, thus, increase the quality of the teaching process, accelerate the restructuring of Agricultural Economics education, and, by establishing a network of key Agricultural Universities, make an essential contribution to the reform of the higher agricultural education system in Russia.
Outcome of the Project • Dissemination of new courses and study materials
• Training of younger teaching staff
• Modernisation of equipment
• Co-ordination and evaluation
